Common Name:  Two-spotted Stink Bug

Latin Name:  Perillus bioculatus (Fabricius, 1775)
                        (R. Bercha, det.)

Length:  10 - 12 mm

Range: Throughout Alberta

Habitat:  Various

Time of year seen:  Summer (Additional Sightings)

Diet: Other insects

Other:  There are six species in the genus Perillus, of which P. bioculatus is the most common.  Both the larva and adults are predaceous and are important predators of the Colorado Potato Beetle.  A single adult can eat up to 200 beetles over its lifetime.  Coloration is extremely variable ranging from black with red, white, yellow or orange markings.   The Two-spotted Stink Bug can usually be differentiated from the other Perillus Stink Bugs by the two black spots on its pronotum. (Marshall, 2006 and Arnett, 2000)
