Common Name:  Black Scavenger Fly

Latin Name:  Sepsis sp.
                        (P. Beuk, det.)

Length:  ~4 mm

Range: Throughout Alberta

Habitat:  Near Manure

Time of year seen:  Summer

Larva's Diet:  Manure

Other:  Black Scavenger Flies are typically shiny and black.  Anatomically they have rounded heads and the abdomen narrows at the base.   The are common flies found on and around manure.
