Common Name:  Broad-headed Bug

Latin Name:  Alydus eurinus Say, 1825
                  
     (R. Bercha, det.)

Length:  9.5 - 12 mm

Range:  Alberta

Habitat: Wooded areas and roadsides

Time of year seen:  July to September (Additional Sightings)

Diet: Sap of legumes and other plants

Other: A. elydus is the most commonly observed Broad-headed bug.  Adults are found in wooded areas and near roadsides on legumes and other plants feeding on their sap.  Broad-headed bug nymphs strongly resemble ants.  (Evans, 2007 & Borror et al, 1970)
