Forage Looper - male

Common Name:  Forage Looper, Common Grass-moth

Latin Name:  Caenurgina erechtea Cramer, 1780
                        (R. Bercha, det., confirmed by G. Anweiler)

Wingspan:  30 - 42 mm

Range: South half of Alberta

Habitat:  Open areas with grass - meadows, roadsides

Time of year seen: June to September

Caterpillar's Diet:  Grasses, alfalfa, clover and great ragweeed.

Similar Species: Caenurgina crassiuscula

Other:  A  common widespread species that is active during both the day and night. (Covell, 1984)
