Lesser Vagabond Sod Webworm

Common Name:  Lesser Vagabond Sod Webworm

Latin Name:  Agriphila ruricolellus (Zeller, 1863)
                        (C. Bird, det.)

Wingspan:   17 - 20 mm

Range: Alberta

Habitat: Grasslands, fields, cultivated land and weedy areas.

Time of year seen: July to August

Caterpillar's Diet: Grasses and Common Sheep Sorrel

Other: A common widespread species found across Canada from Labrador to Alberta.  There is one generation per year with the immature larva over wintering.  The larva feed on various grasses and sheep sorrel (Rumex acetosella)
