Common Name:  Meadow Fritillary

Latin Name:  Boloria bellona Fabricius, 1775
                        (N. Kondla, det.)

Length:  35 -45 mm

Range: Alberta

Habitat:  Meadows and grassy areas

Time of year seen: May to September

Catterpillars Diet: Violets

Other:  A widespread species found across Canada.  There are two generations per year.  Adults are frequently found nectaring on daisy family flowers. (Bird et al, 1995)
