Common Name:  Silverspotted Skipper

Latin Name:  Epargyreus clarus Cramer 1775
                        (R. Bercha, det.)

Wingspan:  44 - 60 mm

Range: Southern 1/3 of Alberta

Habitat: River valley and hill systems in prairie and  and aspen parkland

Time of year seen: May to August  (Additional Sightings)

Caterpillar's Diet:  Wild Licorice

Other:  A widespread species found across Canada from Quebec to British Columbia. It is the largest skipper in Canada, with the adults having a distinctive white patch on the ventral side of their rear wings.
