Common Name:  Two-banded Checkered Skipper

Latin Name:  Pyrgus ruralis (Boisduval, 1852)
                        (N. Kondla, det.)

Wingspan:  20 - 25 mm

Range:  Southwest edge of Alberta

Habitat: Mountainous areas

Time of year seen: May to July

Caterpillar's Diet: Cinquefoil

Other: The Two-banded Checkered Skipper is typically found on dry non-forested slopes and also along stream-side clearings at low elevations in the mountains (Bird et al, 1995).
