Blinded Sphinx Moth
Common Name:  Blinded Sphinx Moth

Latin Name:  Paonias excaecatus (J. E. Smith, 1797)
                        (R. Bercha, det.)

Wingspan:  55 - 95 mm

Range: Throughout Alberta

Habitat:  Southern boreal forest, aspen parklands,
and in wooded grassland valleys.

Time of year seen: June to mid-July

Caterpillar's Diet:  Hawthorn, Elm, cultivated plums and
cherries, White Birch,  Basswood, Saskatoons, and Willow.
