Common Name:  Round-necked Longhorn

Latin Name:  Clytus ruricola, Olivier 1795
                        (R. Bercha, det.)

Length: 10 - 15 mm

Range: Throughout Alberta

Habitat:  Deciduous forests

Time of year seen: May to August

Diet:

Other: Clytus ruricola has a black body with well defined yellow bands of which the middle U-shaped band is distinctive.  The adult beetles are wasp mimics.  The larva feed on rotting hardwood with a preference for maple. (Yanega, 1996 & Eaton et al, 2007))
