Common Name:  Poplar Kitten

Latin Name:  Furcula scolopendrina Boisduval, 1869
                        (R. Bercha, det.)

Wingspan:  35 - 41 mm

Range: Southern 3/5 of Alberta

Habitat:  Deciduous woodlands

Time of year seen: Late May to August

Caterpillar's Diet: Trembling aspen and willow

Other:  The Poplar Kitten is the most common kitten moth in Alberta.  The species is widespread and found from Quebec, west to Vancouver Island.  The moths are attracted to light at night.
