Stages of Beetle Metamorphosis
               

Two-spotted Ladybug pupae (Calgary, AB, Jul. 22, 2005)

Once the larva reaches maturity it attaches itself to a leaf and pupates, emerging as an adult in 7 to 10 days.  The metamorphosis from larva to adult  beetle occurs within a hard protective case.
