Cowpath Tiger Beetles - black color morph
Common Name:  Cowpath Tiger Beetle, Purple Tiger Beetle

Latin Name:  Cicindela purpurea Olivier, 1790 
                        (R. Bercha, det.)

Length:  12 to 14 mm

Range: SE Alberta

Habitat:  Prairie and parkland

Time of year seen:  Late summer and spring

Diet: Insects

Other:  The Cowpath Tiger Beetle comes in two color morphs: black and green.  Both color morphs are equally common.
